You’re about to spend a lot of money and go to a lot of trouble to remodel your bathroom to make your ceramic dream come true so why not take the time to record the event by taking before and after remodeling pictures.
I immortalised my small bathroom-remodeling project in pictures and found that it isn’t difficult to do a good job and it doesn’t take up much time either. I think that it was well worth the effort because it helped me to manage the project and it’s given me something permanent to look back on and show to others. You can do the same with your bathroom makeover project.

Take lots of pictures before and after your bathroom remodel
You’re bound to make a few mistakes so take lots of pictures. Experiment with different angles and distances, with and without flash etc. If you use a digital camera to take the pictures you can simply discard the bad ones and keep the good.
Use a wide angle lens if you have one

I don’t have a wide-angle lens for my digital camera so I had to manage without. If you have one then be sure to use it to get a few full-bathroom shots. If you don’t have one then simply take lots of pictures and make sure that you capture everything in the room.
Photograph all of the bathroom systematically
Be systematic about it. Start at one corner and take pictures that can be placed side by side as you work your way around the bathroom. Make sure that you take pictures of every inch of the room and get good shots of the washbasin, toilet, shower, bathtub etc. Don’t forget to photograph the bathroom accessories too. They are just as much a part of the bathroom as everything else.

Get close but not too close
Take lots of close ups of things but don’t get too close because your camera might not focus properly. You should also take long shots of things from as far away as you can so that you can see how the objects fit in your overall design.
Using flash
It’s best to use natural light whenever you can but the flash on your camera can be very useful when the light is poor or you want to take pictures of shaded objects. Don’t get too close when using flash because it can cause your pictures to be over exposed and dissolve into white. This can be a particular problem when taking photos of reflective surfaces like ceramic tiles. Try standing about a meter away from whatever it is you are photographing for best results. If you have a zoom lens you can use it to take close ups from this distance.

Use backlight compensation when photographing bathroom window walls
If you take pictures of a window wall in the daytime you may find that the automatic settings on your camera reduce the exposure and make your wall look too dark. You can avoid this problem either by using manual exposure control or by pressing the backlight compensation button found on most cameras.

Take pictures before, during and after your bathroom remodel then transfer them to your PC and organise them into some order. If you arrange them chronologically they will show you exactly how the project progressed. Do this for your bathroom remodel and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
I picked up a few tips along the way and I would like to share some of them with you below. If you would like to see the results of my efforts I’ve put some of my pictures on the page Pictures of bathrooms before and after remodeling
